Two local men made a grave mistake when they left their stash of money and drugs in a rental car. When they tried to retrieve the stash, law-enforcement officers were waiting for them.

The Albany County Sheriff’s Office reports that early this morning they were called to the Albany International Airport to one of the car rental companies. They were called because a large quantity of drugs was discovered in one of the vehicles they had recently been returned.

As officers were speaking with the rental car company’s staff, the owners of the drugs returned to the company in an attempt to retrieve the drugs.

According to News 10, Police officers investigating the incident arrested 26-year old Aasim J. Hilts of Albany and Shariff A. Frasier of Schenectady on multiple drug charges.

Aasim Hilts had a large quantity of money and drugs in his possession. Officers confiscated $5600 in cash, marijuana, 10 Suboxone strips, 62 counterfeit oxycodone pills pressed with fentanyl, 35 g of MDMA, and 140 glassine envelopes containing heroin.

Mr. Frasier was charged with Marijuana Possession (Misdemeanor). He was released to appear in court at a later date.

Mr. Hilt was charged with one count of second-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, four counts of third-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony), two counts of fourth-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony), one count of fifth-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (Felony), seventh-degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance (Misdemeanor), and Possession of Marijuana ( Misdemeanor). He was arraigned and released on supervised probation.

I bet these two guys couldn’t believe that they had made such an awful mistake by leaving the money and drugs in the car. Law enforcement officers were probably ecstatic with their easy drug bust.
