Once again a local man was caught driving with drugs in his car. This time the man was very creative in hiding them.

On Sunday at approximately 10:00 p.m., an officer with the Albany County Sheriff’s Office stopped a man driving a BMW and that traffic stop led to the driver being arrested.

The driver, 39-year old Lawrence Johnson was stopped for breaking traffic laws. He’s facing several traffic charges including driving a car without insurance and having a counterfeit temporary registration plate.

According to News 6, While officers were investigating the incident, they looked into a White Castle soda cup. Inside the soda cup they discovered a quantity of cocaine and fentanyl. The drugs were individually packaged.

Because the officer found drugs in the car they arrested Mr. Johnson and took him into custody. He was charged with several counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with the Intent to Sell.

Mr. Johnson was taken to the Albany County Jail where he waits to be arraigned.

Police officers have been cracking down on traffic violations lately. During those traffic stops they have often recovered illegal guns and drugs. This is one of those times when an officer stops a driver because of a traffic offense, and the driver was arrested. Many times the arrest doesn’t have anything to do with the actual reason that the driver was arrested.

Although Mr. Johnson was very creative, his attempt to hide the drugs didn't work. The officer found the drugs and he was still arrested.
