Back in April of 2021, a lift truck carrying heavy equipment hit the Sitterly Road overpass causing major damage and a traffic nightmare. The Department of Transportation has been working with the town and motorists to temporarily open it while they do their work. But now they had to close it to do the major repairs. It will be closed for three months.

How Will They Reroute Motorists?

The Department of Transportation said that the damaged overpass needs to be replaced. This will take up to three months. Because traffic will be very heavy, the DOT is posting detour signs stating that Crossing Boulevard, Clifton Park Center Road, and Route 146 and Route 9 will be alternative roadways.

What Can Motorists Expect?

Dahn Bull who is the Clifton Park Highway Superintendant said that if you travel in and around that area of the Sitterly Road overpass, you can expect heavy traffic during peak times. You may also sit at traffic lights a bit longer according to the Times Union.

Dahn Bull said this about the project:

Unfortunately, this is going to be one of those necessary evils. We want to make sure that the bridge is reconstructed the right way and we’re going to be feeling a little bit of pain during that. But hopefully, at the end of three months, we’re going to have a new bridge with sidewalks that helps travelers get by.

The Sitterly Road overpass is a vital road that connects the Northway Exit 9 with all of the retail and restaurants. Being closed for three months is going to be a major change for commuters and residents in the area.

The Department of Transportation hopes to have the Sitterly Road overpass project completed by the September 12th deadline.
