Plans are in motion to make a popular Upstate New York Ski Mountain into a full ski-and-stay ski resort complete with all of the amenities. The layout has been presented but there are more steps that have to be made before it gains approval.

Which Ski Area is Proposing the Ski Village Resort?

There is an ambitious plan from the owners of West Mountain off of Exit 18 of the Northway to expand their Queensbury ski area into a ski-and-stay resort. West Mountain wants to expand past just a ski, snowboard, and tubing place. The proposal would make West Mountain a year-long resort and destination.

What Is Being Proposed?

They are proposing "The Woods at West Mountain" which would consist of many details and changes according to the Daily Gazette. First, the owners want to build a small village at the Northwest Base. This is on the north end of the ski area. At the base of the mountain, there is a more extensive plan for a conference center, spa, a 60 to 80 unit hotel, an athletic club, 60 townhouses, 72 condos, an amphitheater, shops, a lodge, restaurants, and 180 apartments! This phase could take up to five years.

What Happens Next?

In order for "The Woods at West Mountain" to become a reality, it would need extensive amounts of approvals on all different levels. Plus it would most likely take another ten years and up to one hundred forty million dollars to build.
