Plastic Bags Are Out In Albany But Paper Bags Will Cost You
Welp time to get ECO-FRIENDLY. This time none of us are going to have a choice.
Plastic bags are on their way out and paper bags will now cost you in Albany County. State lawmakers approved a measure that prohibits the use of single-use plastic bags as part of the 2020 state budget.
The ban takes effect in March of 2020. There will be a five-cent fee on each paper bag you need when you do your shopping. The money collected from the fee will go towards the state's Environmental Protection Fund and local programs to help those with low incomes get reusable bags.
I’ve seen reusable bags not cost that much, you can get them as low as 50 cents at some grocers. They have them at the self check out and sometimes at the front of the grocery store. I think the one reason that people aren’t leaning towards reusable bags so easy, is because you FORGET THEM. At least I know I do!
I’m hopping in the ride ready to grab some groceries, the last thing I am going to remember is to bring these bags. Not to mention, I can see some dudes taking issue with the styles of bags, now they forcing us to be walking around with some colorful whimsical flower reusable bags in the grocery store. Maybe I’m overthinking it, but it sure is fun to imagine. Give me the paper bags! Whats 5 cents anyway?
