The New York State Homeowners Assistance Fund, otherwise known as HAF, had made more than $500 million in federal funds available to help eligible homeowners stop mortgage delinquency, default, foreclosure, and potential eviction. That program began accepting applications in early January 2022, is ending on February 18, 2022.

Officials from the program estimate that they received nearly 30,000 applications since early January when the program began. The vast majority of applicants to this program are considered low income and needed help with getting caught up on past due mortgage payments.

Applications had been accepted online using the HAF website, via telephone, and though more than 70 non-profit organizations across the state that partnered with the state to help educate homeowners on the program and submit an application if they believe they are eligible.

Since the last day to submit an application is Friday, February 18, 2022, any applications that are received after that date will go on a waiting list that officials will refer to if additional funds become available in the future. Even though the program is ending soon, it's not too late to submit an application if you are in need of help getting caught up on your mortgage. For more information, if you have questions about this program, or if you wish to submit an application, you can visit the HAF program website here.
