There is high demand for dump truck drivers, plow truck drivers and mechanics. The New York State Department of Transportation is looking to fill sixty-six positions with some of them starting within two weeks of being hired. Other jobs include plowing and snow removal during the winter months.

The New York State Department of Transportation is hiring in their fleet administration and transportation maintenance departments in the Capital Region according to News 10 ABC. There are many different full-time jobs available including highway maintenance workers, mechanics, and fleet administration. If you are interested you have to be eighteen years old and pass a drug test and a physical. For most full-time positions, you need a clean and valid Class A or B commercial driver's license. You must also be able to operate DOT heavy dump trucks. It's expected for you to be able to operate these two weeks after you are hired.

Training and evaluation on different essential equipment and vehicles will be done. You will be gaining experience while training. There will be work with front-end loaders, backhoes, stump grinders, and other heavy pieces of equipment. You will also be expected to remove snow and ice in the winter along with general highway repairs and maintenance.

There are generous health benefits being offered along with a base salary plus overtime pay, sick leave, and paid vacation. Shifts run from early morning to early afternoon or early afternoon to late nights. Storms change shifts from eight shifts to form two twelve-hour shifts to make a twenty-four-hour day seven days a week during ice and snow events.
