If you love Lake George but tend to avoid it during the busiest weeks of summer, this might be your time to head back north.

Summer vacation season has pretty much come to a close; the kids are back in school, and Lake George has started to feel a little more like it belongs to the locals again.

And honestly, this is one of my favorite times of year in the Adirondacks.

Cooler nights, fewer summer crowds, fall foliage starting to creep in — and now, some pretty great food.

September 13th Through the 19th: $35 Per Person

Lake George Region Fall Restaurant Week returns September 13th through the 19th, with participating restaurants offering special three-course prix-fixe meals for $35 per person.

This year's theme couldn't be more Adirondack: “Fireside Fare.”

According to Lake George officials, participating restaurants will feature at least one dish or drink inspired by those cozy fall nights in the Adirondacks. Think smoked, grilled, roasted, toasted, and charred flavors; hearty comfort food; skillet dishes; warm desserts; and even fireside-inspired cocktails and mocktails.

Participating Restaurants

Plenty of familiar Lake George favorites are participating.

The lineup includes The Log Jam Restaurant, Adirondack Pub & Brewery, Moose Tooth Grill, The Lakeside Restaurant & Lounge at Fort William Henry, TR's Restaurant, Lobster Pot Restaurant, Sans Souci, Adirondack Winery & Extreme Heights Cidery, and The Score Sports Grille.

Each restaurant has its own Restaurant Week hours and special menu, so check those out before you go.

For me, this is exactly what makes September in Lake George so underrated.

You still get everything you love about the Adirondacks and the lake, but without some of those peak-season crowds. Throw in a cool September evening and a three-course dinner for $35, and you've got a good excuse to rediscover an old Lake George favorite or finally try a place you've driven past a hundred times.
