Rare Sight! Watch as an ADK Moose Goes for Swim in Upstate NY

Have you ever seen a moose in Upstate NY?

Most people have not, and that's why we think the video of a moose taking a dip is pretty darn magnificent!

Upstate NY can be a truly magical place. How many times have you road-tripped throughout the state with your eyes peeled on the forest hoping to catch a glimpse of something you've never seen before?

Most people will argue that our mighty Adirondacks are the crown jewel of New York State. It covers one-fifth of New York State, is as big as Vermont, and is nearly three times the size of Yellowstone National Park.

Within the Adirondack Park are more than 2,800 lakes and ponds, and more than 1,500 miles of rivers, fed by an estimated 30,000 miles of brooks and streams.

Unicorns of the ADKS

According to nature enthusiasts, moose are considered the unicorns of the Adirondacks, "awe-inspiring and highly sought after, but rarely seen."

The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation estimates that approximately 400 moose live in the Adirondacks; sightings are rare, but not impossible if you know where to look.

And if you're lucky, you might even spot a moose swimming across a river or a lake.  Such was the case recently in Upstate NY at 4th Lake in Old Forge.

Old Forge is about an hour north of Utica, 4th Lake is about 18 miles long, and at its deepest point is about 85 feet down.

On average, it's about 33 feet deep and we assume that this moose is wading through the water because it's not too far from shore.
