Monday, September 11th marked the 22nd year anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on New York City, and while many across the country took some time out of the day to remember those who lost their lives, Firefighters in New York saved one.

FDNY Firefighters Make Memorable Rescue on 9/11

According to a post on their Instagram page, members of FDNY at Ladder 158 in Queens were observing a moment of silence on 9/11 when the unforgettable moment happened.

"While observing a moment of silence during our 9/11 ceremony at the firehouse, a civilian pulled up and said there's an animal in my engine," said Lt. Robert Schlaffer.

Kitten Stuck in a Car Engine

The social media post explained that Firefighter Anthony Caliendo, who also happens to be an auto mechanic, "went to investigate and saw a kitten stuck in the wheel well" and that's when the FDNY heroes went to work.

The firefighters, according to the post, took the wheel off in an attempt to free the trapped feline, and that's when they realized there was a problem.

"There was some kind of bar pinning it down and keeping it from getting out so we used Dawn dish soap and lathered him all up and eventually I was able to pull the kitten out," said NY Firefighter Anthony Caliendo.

Shout out to the rest of the crew.

Firefighters Chris Lyons, Dwayne Campbell, John Moravek, and Claudius Caines, all assisted with the kitty rescue on 9/11 - see the video below!

Here Kitty, Kitty!

And even better news, the kitten was adopted by a member of Engine 311, which shares the firehouse.

GNA Hotshots - A Look Back at the Summer of Country Music in Upstate NY

It was an incredible summer for country shows in the area, and we were fortunate to have some of the biggest stars in the industry come to the Capital Region.

Things started to warm up this summer when Thomas Rhett and Cole Swindell brought the Hometeam Tour to MVP Arena in June and wrapped when The Chief, Eric Church came to town for the first time in a decade with rising superstar Lainey Wilson.

But MVP Arena and SPAC weren't the only venues rocking out in the summer of 2023, Jackson Dean and Dylan Scott played Pinehaven Country Club in Guilderland, Lee Brice hit up a historic venue in Albany, and country legend Tracy Byrd played the Schoharie County Sunshine Fair.

GNA was there for all of these shows, plus a whole lot more, and our amazing photographer Claude Sawyer was front and center, to bring you all the action from the pit.
