Disturbing Animal Abuse Case: Saratoga County
A Saratoga County woman is facing a felony animal cruelty charge after prosecutors say she poured hot coffee on her dog, leaving the animal with painful burns and infections.
According to a report from NewsChannel 13's Mark Mulholland, 43-year-old Vanessa French of Moreau has been charged with aggravated cruelty to animals.
Let's just say if these allegations are true, there's a very warm place reserved for people who abuse animals.

Authorities say French allegedly punished her dog, a black lab mix, by pouring hot coffee on it. The dog suffered burns to its head and back and later developed secondary infections, according to the report.
A photo released this week shows the dog after receiving a week of treatment and care.
Smiling in Her Mugshot
Saratoga County District Attorney Brett Eby condemned the alleged abuse and praised those helping the dog recover.
"I am committed to standing up for the voiceless and aggressively prosecuting those who abuse defenseless animals," Eby said. "We are grateful to the Saratoga County Animal Shelter for the outstanding care and compassion they have shown this dog during its recovery."
What has many people talking, however, is French's mugshot. The Moreau woman appeared to smile for the booking photo despite the disturbing allegations.
Extensive Criminal History
According to prosecutors, French has an extensive criminal history, including three felony convictions and eight misdemeanor convictions. NewsChannel 13 reports she has previously served years in prison and jail.
The dog remains in the care of the Saratoga County Animal Shelter as it continues its recovery.
