Halloween in July?

I've always said that summer should officially start sometime in the middle of May.  It's kind of unfair that on only the second day of summer, the days begin getting shorter again.

We should have at least a few weeks of build-up before our favorite season - hence why I believe May 15th would be a perfect target date.

Anyway, I digress.

Upstate NY Stores Get Ready

The reality is, once the Fourth of July holiday passes and the Saratoga Racing Season begins, summer in the Capital Region flies by.  Some - myself included- might not be ready for August, let alone September or October!

But at least a few stores in the Capital Region are clearing out shelves to make room for Halloween items such as candy, costumes, and decorations.

Latham preps for Halloween

Below are some images taken by a colleague who told GNA that two stores in Latham, the PC/Market Bistro and Marshall's, already made room on the shelves for decorations and candy 3 and a 1/2 months before Halloween.

I always felt like once Labor Day Weekend wraps, it's a good time for stores to start busting out the tricks and treats, but the stores seem to feel otherwise.

So, when do people start buying Halloween stuff?

According to a recent study by the National Retail Federation, more than 1/3 of consumers will start buying Halloween products "in September or earlier."
