Ballston Spa Restaurant Clears Up Rumors

A popular Capital Region restaurant is making a major move into Schenectady — but its owners want customers to know this is an expansion, not a goodbye.

Alaturco Gyro Mediterranean Restaurant recently announced it purchased the former Gershon’s Deli property at 1600 Union Street in Schenectady, sparking plenty of excitement online.

They're Not Leaving

But after the announcement, rumors quickly spread that the restaurant might be closing its Ballston Spa location or stepping away from local farmers markets.

"We’ve been getting SO many messages, calls, and questions lately asking if we’re closing our Ballston Spa location or leaving the farmers markets, so we wanted to clear things up for everyone." Alaturco Gyro Mediterranean Restaurant Facebook

This week, the owners cleared things up.

“First of all — no, we are NOT closing our Ballston Spa restaurant,” the restaurant wrote on social media. “And yes, we will absolutely continue being part of the farmers markets that supported us from the very beginning.”

They're Expanding

The restaurant said the new Schenectady location has been a longtime dream and that they’re working to create something “beautiful, warm, elegant, and worthy of the incredible customers who have supported us through this journey.”

Alaturco has built a loyal following in the Capital Region thanks to its Mediterranean menu, including gyros and other favorites, and its strong presence at local farmers' markets.

The new location will move into the former Gershon’s Deli building, which closed a few months ago on Union Street.

The owners say Ballston Spa isn’t going anywhere — they’re simply growing.
