Caught In the Act By New York State Authorities
Have you heard the phrase "right place, wrong time"? Well, these individuals appear to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) officers happened to witness an alleged burglary in progress.
NYSDEC officers, on a routine patrol, noticed a vehicle that was parked suspiciously on the side of the road. As officers approached they noticed one subject get into the vehicle quickly while another individual was attempting to hide behind a tree. Nothing to see here, right?
On Sunday August 18th, according to a NYSDEC press release, NYSDEC officers in the town of Windsor, NY turned their vehicle around, noticed the suspects vehicle had already left so they followed in that direction. That's when they found the vehicle hidden in a field.
NYSDEC officers immediately recognized the subject in the vehicle as an individual previously charged with hunting and traffic violations. During this investigation the driver denied knowing the man, once again, attempting to hide behind a tree.
When officers returned to the residence where they originally spotted these subjects they discovered a safe in the yard. The subjects allegedly kicked in the door of an outbuilding and wheeled the safe onto the lawn where they were spotted.
New York State Police arrived and discovered items stolen from the outbuilding inside the subject’s vehicle. State Police are pursuing Penal Law charges while ECO McCormick will address the vehicle and traffic law violations. The second subject was not located by ECOs. His tree hiding skills worked, for now.
