Owners Heat Up Windham Mountain Club With $70 Mil In Improvements
One of the Catskill Mountains' most popular ski destinations, is getting a facelift. The new owners of the recently renamed Windham Mountain Club announced they are investing $70 million to expand and improve the properties' amenities.
Windham Mountain Club is a hour from downtown Albany, making it an easy destination for Capital Region skiers. The mountain opened in 1960 as the Cave Mountain Ski Area and has operated under several aliases since, including Ski Windham. Currently, the mountain hosts 54 trails and 11 ski-lifts.
According to William Kemble of dailyfreeman.com, Beall Investment Partners and Kemmons Wilson Hospitality Partners bought a majority share in the resort in April. The new owners rebranded it the Windham Mountain Club. The upgraded resort now offers memberships and other country club-like services.
The new ad campaign that started at the end of September promises that Windham is "serving up something elevated." The website has been redesigned and it appears that this season's skiers will notice the changes. Resort Chairman Sandy Beall told the Daily Freeman, “Our focus is creating memorable experiences from a day on the mountain to an afternoon on the water or fairway to summer mornings spent in holistic fitness and total rejuvenation.”
Kemble noted that an elevated food court, a Mediterranean kitchen in the base lodge, an Italian Alps-styled restaurant, and a private members’ dining club are all part of the culinary plan for the expansion. Mechanical upgrades to the ski areas, including to snow makers and lifts, improvements to the golf course; a luxury spa, a gym and fitness club; pools; racquet sports facilities; and an amphitheater for summer concerts are all included in the planned upgrades. This certainly doesn't sound like your father's Windham Mountain.
