Maidstone is an exclusive club located on the Atlantic Ocean in East Hampton, New York. The playground for the rich features beach side cabanas with fine dining complimented by one of the most magnificent golf courses on the east end of Long Island, where there are a few. According to an article on newsday.com by Robert Brodsky and Craig Schneider, what appeared to be "friendly get-together to watch a golf tournament" involving two people in the golf business apparently turned into a crime scene.

The newsday.com article said that prosecutors stated that 45 year-old Kevin Somers of Amagansett, was found dead February 5th after a physical altercation with 34 year-old Marc Dern, while at Dern's home in East Hampton. The details revealed that East Hampton Town Police responded to Dern's home shortly before 11 p.m. following a 911 call. "Dern, who was Somers' assistant at the Maidstone Club, is accused of putting his boss in a headlock and breaking a small bone in his throat, essentially choking him to death, according to charging documents."

Dern's wife alleged that she wanted to put their kids to bed and told Somers to leave. She also said that her husband's boss was drinking and "getting aggressive" and that things were "out of control" before the fight, prosecutors said. The two men began "wrestling" and the fight escalated, charging documents state. The report said that the Suffolk County DA's office plans to present the case to a grand jury on February 16th, the same day Dern is due back in court.
