Rae Sremmurd is easily one of hip-hop's top rap groups and today one of the members is celebrating a birthday. Swae Lee, whose real name is Khalif Brown, turns 20 years old today (June 7).

The dynamic duo had to struggle before their current rise in the rap game. The Mississippi-born brothers Swae Lee and Slim Jimmy were battling homelessness before "No Flex Zone" blew up. Despite being displaced, Rae Sremmurd became known for throwing parties even at the abandoned house they were living in.

“It’s because, like, you know where you’re going to be, so you’re staying positive,” said Swae Lee during an interview on ESPN's Highly Questionable.

Rae Sremmurd moved to Atlanta to link up with hitmaker Mike WiLL Made It, who had an impressive run of hits in 2012. The rap tandem, originally known as Dem Outta St8 Boyz, took on its current moniker after signing with Mike WiLL's EarDrummers Entertainment imprint.

It took just a few months for the hits to start flowing in. "No Flex Zone" eventually took off thanks, in part, to a freestyle verse from Nicki Minaj. Their follow-up single, the club banger "No Type," proved Rae Sremmurd weren't one-hit wonders. In January, the duo released their debut effort SremmLife and it was received warmly by the critics.

Unfortunately, Swae Lee will be celebrating his birthday by himself. His partner-in-rhyme Slim Jimmy severely lacerated his leg during a performance at the 2015 Governors Ball Music Festival.

Jimmy is currently in the hospital recovering from his injuries. Meanwhile, Swae Lee plans to turn up for his birthday tonight (June 7). Read the tweets below.
