Renee from Selkirk was nursing a massive migraine when we unexpectedly called her Thursday morning to tell her about her Hometown Hero nomination.  We tried to tell her we were totally cool with calling her back, but Renee wouldn't budge.  Migraine or not,  her desire to spread the word about her homeless initiative 'Street Soldiers' was way too important to pass up.  She powered through the phone call, and we're thankful she did.  What we learned from her was quite inspiring.  Renee offers comfort, food, warmth, and hugs to many people in the Capital Region who often feel neglected and cast aside.

Street Soldiers is a GrassRoot organization that helps provide hot meals and needed essentials to the homeless and less fortunate. The organization was founded in 2016 by Selkirk residence, Renee and Mike Fahey. The Fahey’s use their home, garage and vehicles for storing and transporting all the meals, clothing, coolers, drinks and tables for the Friday evening event in Washington Park.

County Waste has partnered with us to honor those in our communities who are truly making a difference.
