An East Greenbush man has been charged and arrested for despicable acts. If he’s found guilty of these charges, he’s looking at a lot of time in jail.

According to Times Union, on Thursday Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department arrested 24-year old Robert W. Ruth of Sequoia Drive in East Greenbush, New York. The incident allegedly occurred in January of this year in a hotel room in Malta, but Jacob Ruth was not arrested until the end of May. Deputies say Mr. Ruth is accused of allegedly having sexual intercourse with an unconscious, helpless person. According to the law, a person is unable to give consent to have sexual intercourse while unconscious.

After investigating the incident for several months the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department made an arrest. Mr. Jacob Ruth was charged with first-degree rape because the person was unable to consent to the sexual act. Apparently Mr. Ruth videotaped the sexual assault, therefore he was charged with second-degree unlawful surveillance. According to New York State sentencing guidelines, Mr. Ruth could face a maximum of 29 years in prison. Mr. Ruth’s bail was set at $30,000 cash. He was sent to the Saratoga County Jail where he is currently awaiting trial.

Having sex with someone who is unconscious or unfit to consent to have sex is absolutely perverted, videotaping it is even more perverted. Offenses like this carry lengthy sentences, and they should. In today’s world, sex is not taboo, so I don’t understand why he needed to take advantage of someone who was in a vulnerable state.
