Imagine it is early morning, sitting on your back deck enjoying the quiet and your coffee. You hear a noise, look up, and see a bear trotting through your yard!

That is what happened this morning for residents in Schodack. But, as you can see from the video, it was just passing through.

Not the first time, and just a few days ago, Bethlemen Police warned residents to use caution if walking and keep dogs on a leash. Officials said at this time of year, bear sightings are not uncommon. Bears are looking to feed and are particularly fond of bird feeders, picnic baskets, and trash.

On May 31st, a bear was in a tree in Washington Park. That is not the same bear as this morning. That bear, which officials believed to be a 2-year-old, 150-pound male, was drugged and loaded into a DEC truck for its journey to an isolated spot in the Catskill Mountains.

I am sure you already know this, but if you see a bear, please do not approach, don't feed it. And if it does not detect you, that is a good thing!
