Louann Ingraham, of Castleton, has dedicated her life to helping people in need.

She works at the Castleton Anchor, a nonprofit charity that supplies food, household goods and clothing to families in the community who need them most.

As part of the “Hometown Heroes” series, we’ve partnered with County Waste and Latham Ford to celebrate local unsung heroes for their good deeds and honorable work.

We asked Louann a few questions about her work. Here’s what she had to say:

Q: What inspires you as a volunteer?

A: When I was young, I was a member of Key Club at Maple Hill High School where students and teachers worked to help people. I really enjoyed bringing joy and assistance to others, and have continued to make that a huge part of my life.  I am very blessed to have a job that I love and am able to help so many. I never thought that would be possible.

Q: What's the most rewarding thing about what you do?

A: The most rewarding thing about what I do is that I am able to help so many.  Every night I pray to God if there is something else for me to do tomorrow, remember to wake me up.

Q: What are some challenges?

A:  It is hard to meet all the needs of the community, especially with current cuts in assistance programs, the colder weather, and the holidays.  Currently the Anchor is trying to make sure that all families who need a Thanksgiving Bountiful Basket are able to receive one.  Another huge challenge is to make sure that no individual or family in need is missed.

Q: Do you consider yourself a "hero?" Why or why not?

A: All the people who help out, they are the true heros here. None of this would be possible without the help of so many.
