Capital Region Drive In Theatres Are Opening! Want to See A Movie This Weekend?
Here in the Capital Region we can't rely on the weather to let us know that Spring has arrived. Seeing daffodils start to pop out of the ground is a good sign. Looking for Robins sitting in our trees could do it. But there is one sign of Spring that is certain. The opening of the drive-in theatres.
Well, it looks like Spring is here as the area drive-in movie theatres start to open! Here is a list of which ones are already open, which ones open this weekend and which ones open soon.
We are fortunate to have several drive-in theatre's to choose from in New York State. In the Capital Region alone there are more than half-a-dozen drive-in theatres. As you will see while scrolling through the list below many of the theatres have multiple screens and typically you will have a double-feature option.
According to History.com, drive-in theatres were originally called park-in theatres and it cost no more than $1 for the family to see a movie. New York State had one of the biggest drive-ins in the country! The All-Weather Drive-In of Copiague was able to accommodate 2,500 cars!
