This First of It’s Kind Book Bikes Coming to Capital Region!
There is a unique summer program in the Capital Region, and it involves books and bikes! The local not-for-profit organization Grassroot Givers has teamed up with CDPHP to bring two "book bikes" to events in Albany.
An earth-friendly opportunity, Grassroot Givers, has launched the mobile libraries to pedal to local neighborhoods and events, sharing books and promoting literacy and book ownership throughout the summer.
The program is to ensure kids continue reading over the summer to avoid the so-called "summer reading slump." There are not only books on these bikes, but they are also equipped with toothbrushes, toothpaste, and educational information on oral health, courtesy of Delta Dental.
These book bikes are the first of their kind in the Capital Region for Grassroots Givers. The non-profit has shared over half a million books with people in the Albany area.
The CDPHP book bikes will be at the Albany Department of Recreation Playstreets events each Friday and several other camps, parks, and even splash pads, weather permitting.
Grassroot Givers connects the community's needs and those with resources to share. If you can donate your time and are interested in being part of Grassroot Givers, you can contact them at https://www.grassrootgivers.org/.
