Listen to a Snippet of New ASAP Rocky Song
A$AP Rocky's been hinting at a new album for a while now, but not too much has materialized in the way of new music, at least, on the solo front. Now, we've finally gotten a taste of new material—sort of.
Hopping on his Instagram story, Rocky previewed a snippet of some new heat Thursday (Jan. 4), and it sounded pretty interesting. The track begins with a dark, ambient instrumental and a lack of vocals. After some seconds pass, we hear Flacko, who's using some effects to make his voice deeper before it circles back to his normal pitch.
"Heroin punch, cocaine up in her veins/She dancing, acting strange/Heroin punch, I ain't for the games/Smoking blunts, rolling paper planes, what you want," Rocky spits with fluctuating pitches.
There's been no confirmation on what, exactly, the track will be called, but folks have speculated that it's titled "Testing" based off the caption Rocky provided when he uploaded the song to his Instagram story. Maybe the track will see Rocky's vocals going up and down the whole way through—like he's "testing" different sounds. This would fall right into line with what Rocky said of his new solo project last fall.
Speaking with GQ, Rocky revealed that he'd be trying some new things. "My new album is really about testing new sounds," said Rocky, who dropped Cozy Tapes Vol. 2: Too Cozy with the A$AP Mob last year. "People are scared to test new sounds, so they go with what's current 'cause it's the easy thing to do. The top 100 songs sound a certain way. People cater more to that because it's a bigger demographic behind that, or it's a guaranteed demographic behind that. I prefer to experiment and have my crowd grow with me and to reach new crowds. I don't just rap—I actually make music. That's why it takes time. These sonics represent me."
