Kendrick Lamar to Produce ‘Black Panther’ Movie Soundtrack With Anthony “Top Dawg” Tiffith
Top Dawg Entertainment is already winning 2018. Kendrick Lamar, who's been nominated for numerous trophies at the 2018 Grammy Awards, is producing Black Panther: The Album, the soundtrack for Marvel Studios' forthcoming superhero epic, Black Panther. Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith is joining the rapper to handle production duties.
Starring Chadwick Boseman in the titular role, Black Panther follows T'Challa, the king of Wakanda as he deals with an old enemy threatening his isolated kingdom. Directing the film is Creed helmer, Ryan Coogler.
“Marvel Studios’ Black Panther is amazing, from its cast to its director," K. Dot says of the new Marvel Studios film. "The magnitude of this film showcases a great marriage of art and culture. I'm truly honored to contribute my knowledge of producing sound and writing music alongside Ryan and Marvel's vision."
Top Dawg echoes that sentiment, saying, "Working on such a powerful movie is a great opportunity. We're always working on new goals at TDE, so teaming up with Disney, Marvel Studios and the Black Panther film makes perfect sense."
This official announcement arrives just a couple weeks after Kung Fu Kenny dropped his "LOVE." video, which, if you pay close attention to, appears to include a hint that he was involved in Black Panther.
Now, we officially know what's good. We've also got the first single from the project. It's called "All the Stars," and it's performed by K. Dot and his TDE labelmate, SZA. Sounwave, who cultivated much of the soundscape for Kendrick's DAMN. album, handles the production.
Listen to "All the Stars" below. Black Panther arrives in theaters on Feb. 16.
