A user named wifiloveyou on Reddit put together a very comprehensive map of New York State with a type of geographical breakdown of unsolved crimes. The marks on the map represent six different categories:

  • Missing Men
  • Missing Women
  • Murdered Men
  • Murdered Women
  • Bodies Found
  • Unidentified Bodies

You can hover over different areas of the state and find out more about the missing individual or unsolved crime. The map extends as far west as Oklahoma because the victim or crime has a connection back to New York.

In the Capital Region, some of the unsolved cases include:

  • The discovery of human remains found in Albany circa 1975

In total, there are nearly 300 instances of missing, unidentified or unsolved cases highlighted on this map. By clicking an individual icon on the map, it will bring up that particular case and provide links with more information. Many of these cases date back several decades.

This looks like it took a lot of work to put together, but perhaps the simplicity of having this map at our fingertips can help garner some information that can eventually lead to solving the mysteries and provide closure for the victim's families.

If you have a few minutes, take a look through and see some details of each case. Maybe you'll have some information that shed new light on a cold case here in New York.
