Albany Police Investigate Weekend Shooting 5 Shot 1 Woman Dead
Members of the Albany Police Department are investigating a large gathering over the weekend that left one woman shot dead and four others injured.
Sadly, gun violence in Albany continues to threaten the lives of our young people. Officers respond to a 911 call around 11 o’clock on Saturday night for a shooting that occurred at a residence. When officers arrived, they found a 32-year old woman who was suffering from severe gunshot wounds.
According to News 10, Officers identify the victim as 32-year-old Shanita Thomas. Ms. Thomas was transported to the Albany Medical Center Hospital where she tragically passed away.
Two unidentified women were also shot at the location. Officers report that a 27-year-old woman and a 37-year old woman were also shot. They were also transported to the Albany Medical Center Hospital, thankfully they had non-life-threatening injuries.
A short time later, a 30-year-old man and a 33-year-old man sought medical attention for gunshot wounds. Officers believe that they were shot at the same location where the women were injured. Thankfully, their wounds were considered non-life-threatening.
Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan spoke about the incident. She reminds residents that large gatherings of any kind are prohibited. The people responsible for hosting the party will probably receive a citation from the Albany Codes Department for violating gathering laws.
There have been no arrests yet, and Albany Police Chief Eric Hawkins says that his department is still investigating the incident. He is asking anyone with information to call the Albany Police Department.
It’s extremely sad that a young woman lost her life over the weekend with yet another act of gun violence. We sent our sincere condolences to Ms. Thomas’ family.
