After a short foot pursuit, police were able to arrest an Albany man. Police were able to take 23-year-old Elijah Bernard, of Albany, into custody after he allegedly crashed the stolen vehicle that he was driving.

According to News 6, At around 9:42 a.m. 23-yr.old Elijah Bernard led State Police Troopers on a police pursuit in the city of Albany. Bernard sped through with the city until he eventually crashed the vehicle striking the curb and a street sign and disabling the vehicle in the area of Lawrence Street.

Elijah Bernard was not injured during the chase nor the ensuing accident. He was taken into custody and charged.

Since the vehicle he was driving was reported stolen in Glenville, Elijah Bernard was charged with criminal Criminal Possession of Stolen Property Greater than $3000 (which is in a class D felony); Unlawful Fleeing of a Police Officer and in a Motor Vehicle in the third-degree (which is a class A misdemeanor); Reckless Endangerment Second Degree (which is a class B misdemeanor); Obstructing Governmental Administration in the second degree (a class a misdemeanor) reckless endangerment property (hey class B misdemeanor); and possession of Stolen Property Greater than $1000 (a class E felony).

Police officers did not report as to whether Mr. Bernard will need medical attention after he crashed the vehicle. He was transported to SP Latham for processing and was transported to the Albany County Jail for arraignment. Mr. Bernard is scheduled to appear in the City of Albany Court and a later date.  Do you think the pandemic has made people take more risk when committing crime?
