JEK Basketball Tournament Continues!
Albany City Hall OKs Joyce E. King Basketball Tournament to go on its 14th year!
What was once scheduled to be cancelled due to public safety issues, the Joyce E. King Memorial Basketball Tournament in the Arbor Hill section of Albany is now back on.
Going into its 14th year, Latunde King, the son of Joyce E. King and founder/organizer of the tournament was initially denied a special event permit by Albany Police Department. Word of the possible cancellation of the flagship summer basketball tournament within the 518 spread quickly. On my own Facebook feed, there was a call for volunteers to step up and make sure the tournament remain family friendly and safe for all – and it worked.
Albany’s City Hall Twitter account confirmed the continuance of the event:
Thanks to the JEK tournament organizers and APD for a safety plan that will allow the tournament to happen!

I’m glad that the community and the city officials that serve were able to come to an agreement to allow a tournament that means a great deal to the 518. Check out the full article here.
