I was very surprised when I found out that Colby Rogers is leaving Siena to enter the transfer portal.  He was Siena's best and most consistent shooter all season as he averaged over 14 points per game.  Coach Carm spoke very highly of Colby each time that Coach was on with on Thursdays at 11 a.m. here on Big Board Sports.  The Transfer Portal presents a real problem for some of these coaches in my opinion.  It has been a major change to collegiate athletics.  Here is my quick take on this from the Times Union:

Just because a player leaves his school for the Transfer Portal, doesn’t mean the head coach or the University did anything wrong. Sometimes the player feels they can play at a higher level, and decides to give it a shot. Most times the player is getting bad information on how good they are, and it ends up being a bad decision. When a player leaves a program, everyone just blames the head coach, when in reality that’s usually not the person to blame. The Transfer Portal is wreaking havoc on college athletes, with no end in sight. I will say if the head coach gets a new job or gets fired, than you can’t fault the player for wanting to transfer to a new school.

I wish Colby Rogers but the best of luck with his career moving forward.  Siena and the entire Capital Region community will miss him.
