Alarming news has come out of all Ulster County as they report that a vaccinated resident has contracted the Delta variant of the COVID-19 virus.

Just a week or so ago the sky of Albany was lit up with fireworks as we celebrated a milestone in the fight against COVID-19. We celebrated because 70% of New Yorkers are vaccinated and we thought we were out of the woods. Many vaccinated people feel comfortable walking around with masks, but others continue to mask up.

The CDC has recommended that unvaccinated people continue to wear their masks and follow COVID-19 safety protocol. They advised vaccinated individuals to begin living their lives as they did before COVID-19 took over the world.

We all know that the vaccine is not 100% effective in fighting the virus, but the big question is whether the vaccine will protect us against the new Delta variant.

Health officials do not seem very surprised but a vaccinated person came down with COVID. They always said that the vaccine was not 100% effective, but it is a great tool in the fight against the virus. They also say that if an individual does contract the virus, they are less likely to become seriously ill or die from COVID-19. That was the case with the individual in Ulster County who tested positive for COVID-19. That individual is now fully recovered from illness related to the virus.

It’s time for everyone to take accountability for themselves. The government is no longer requiring us to do anything relating to COVID. Wear a mask if you want to wear a mask. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Just know that you are responsible for yourself.
