Today in Hip-Hop: Lil Wayne’s Tour Bus Shot up in Atlanta

On this day, April 26, in hip-hop history...

2015: Lil Wayne was leaving Compound, a club in Atlanta, early one Sunday morning when shots were fired at the rapper's two tour buses. Wayne, Lil Twist and other Young Money artists were aboard one of the busses, though no one was injured during the shooting. The two vehicles were driven to a nearby hotel, where police were called to the scene.

At the time, there was no indication that the incident was a result of anything that had happened inside the club, with a police spokesperson telling the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, "Witnesses could only provide a limited description of the suspect vehicles. They were described as two white vehicles, possibly a Corvette-style vehicle and an SUV.”

There was speculation following the shooting that it was in some way tied to Young Thug, whom Wayne had made comment on in light of Thugger's then upcoming project Barter 6. “Stop listening to songs of niggas who pose naked on their motherfucking album covers," Wayne had said to a crowd prior to the incident. Wayne didn't stop there, eithe, elling an audience in Ohio, “Ain’t no muthafuckin' such thing as Carter 6…And anytime you bitch them bitch ass niggas to come up win this muthafucka, before they say one word you let ‘em know Tunechi said, ‘Suck my dick.’”

In July 2015, Jimmy Winfrey (aka PeeWee Roscoe), who was known to be Thugger's occasional tour manager at the time, turned himself in to Atlanta law enforcement. In August of that same year he was charged with terroristic threats, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a felon and criminal gang activity.

On Nov. 20, 2015, Winfrey pled guilty to six gang-related charges and was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 10 years probation for his role in shooting up Weezy's whip. In January 2016, he attempted to appeal his sentence, but he remains imprisoned.
