Get ready to pay more to drive on the New York State Thruway. An increase was just approved and it's the first time in fourteen years that tolls have increased.
We have seen a couple of New York State Thruway rest areas reopen but that may be all for a while. It looks as if the project to revamp and rebuild the twenty-seven Thruway rest areas is significantly delayed.
There has been a lot of construction being done on the New York State Thruway Rest Areas and finally, we are starting to see some of the rest stops being completed. Although the first rest area is open, this is one of the smaller versions of what the other ones will look like. The Indian Castle rest area just 90 minutes west of Albany is beautiful with a Popeye's and Starbucks inside. It boasts a Starbucks drive-thru and a convenience store featuring a variety of New York state products.
The gas prices are still very high and before we know it, summer will be here and we are going to want to travel. Not only will we have to worry about gas prices, but the New York State Thruway isn't cheap to drive. One lawmaker is proposing a bill that would make the NY Thruway toll-free this summer.
If you travel the New York State Thruway, you know it can get pretty expensive. There may be some relief in sight. There is legislation to give the Thruway tolls a break and to offset the high gas prices. Not only will it help motorists, but it will also help with local tourism.
