Snoop Dogg Relaunches DoggyStyle Records With His First Artist Clay James

Many may not recall that Snoop Dogg once had his own record label called DoggyStyle Records. Launched in 1995 after the release of his 1993 debut album of the same name, the Doggfather is now revitalizing the fallen label after a 20-year hiatus.

The flagship artist on Snoop's revived label is his new signee, Altanta rhymer Clay James. The young rap upstart revealed how he met Snoop at SXSW.

"I was greeted by Yung Zeke, JU, and Young Hunnid of the Dawg Crew Ent. collective, who are direct business affiliates of Snoop Dogg," he told Sway's Universe. "They liked my performance and formed an organic relationship with me."

"We kept in touch after SXSW, and one day they told me how they brought my name up to Pocket Norwood, an A&R over at DoggyStyle Records," he continues. "Pocket asked me to send some music to him, and he played it for Snoop Dogg. Now here we are."

James' first release on DoggyStyle is the two-stepper, "Southern Playa S---." James shows some southern hospitality on the smooth trap ballad, which has as many twerk-inducing moments as it has melodies.
