It's on the top of the Christmas list for the Capital Region's carless, but will this finally be the year Uber makes an appearance in Albany?

It seems as though it could be a possibility soon, as Uber hosted a meeting Thursday night attended by about 150 people interested in becoming the area's first Uber drivers. The meeting was held at Wolff's Biergarten and was hosted by Uber, according to the Times Union.

Potential drivers were able to learn about the vetting process Uber uses for its drivers and how customers use the app to get rides. Uber is estimating it could bring 700 jobs to the Capital Region if the service becomes available here.

Currently, Uber's service is not legal in New York outside of New York City, but the company is currently lobbying to change that and bring Uber to more New York cities.

Uber is not the only service of its kind looking to expand past New York City. Competitor Lyft is also lobbying for the cause.
