Monday’s bombing in Boston was a tragic event. Unfortunately, sometimes it takes tragedy to bring a nation together. Although the historic city is hundreds of miles away, the Capital Region has united to help our neighbors to the east heal. One example of this is an event happening in Saratoga Springs at 5:30pm on Thursday.

To commemorate the tragic events, community members will take part in a Run for Boston at Saratoga Spa State Park. Runners and walkers alike are encouraged to participate. The group will meet at the Warming Hut in the Park at 5:30pm tomorrow.

There is no set distance for the event. Participants can run or walk whatever distance their hearts desire. Participants are also encouraged to wear Boston-themed attire or the color purple. You can go to RunJunKees.com to print out a “race bib” to wear while you run or walk.

While you’re in the park, you can also help victims by donating blood at the Gideon Putnam Hotel. You can donate on Thursday 12pm-7pm. The hotel is one of the “Holiday Heroes Blood Drive” locations. If you can’t make it to Toga, the following locations will be accepting donations from 12pm-7pm as well:

Albany Marriott – 189 Wolf Road, Albany

America’s Best Value Inn – 10 Market Street, Amsterdam

Hilton Garden Inn – 30 Clifton Country Road, Clifton Park

Troy Hilton Garden Inn – 235 Hoosick Steet, Troy
