'Riddick' was a low-budget production made entirely from passion and duct tape, but it ended up being one the more pleasant surprises of 2013, performing well at the box office and satisfying all the fans who were let down by 'The Chronicles of Riddick.' Now that the 'Riddick' DVD is selling well, Universal is looking to develop a fourth entry in the series. That's the basic gist of the news. However, since franchise star/mastermind Vin Diesel is a certified weirdo (albeit, the lovable and awesome kind), the official announcement is significantly stranger than you'd think.

Anyone who follows Mr. Diesel on Facebook knows that he's prone to posting all kinds of weird messages and memes, many of them looking like they were painstakingly whipped up in Microsoft Paint. It's charming to see such a recognizable name get so personal and lo-fi, and it's even more charming to see him stick his announcement of 'Riddick 4' in the middle of a seven-minute-long video of him dancing.

For the first four minutes or so, Diesel dances in front of his computer, having a grand 'ol time with his private dance party. Then he turns the music down and starts talking, first saying how much he regrets missing the Grammys (he was too busy preparing to continue shooting 'Fast and Furious 7') before announcing the following (via JoBlo):

I'm just excited, and happy, and I'm shouting out to you guys to say thank you. Universal just called me and told me Riddick is number one on the DVD charts. There's no way Riddick would have been made without you guys. You know that. And you guys have been a part of our page since 2012 and remember how arduous a road it was to get the movie made, and to make it rated 'R,' and to do it with such a low budget. It's a win for all of us and I really, really thank you so much. Yeah, I'm excited, and of course, Universal also says they want to develop the next one.

Vin Diesel is easily the only guy in Hollywood who would un-ironically drop a scoop like that in the middle of a webcam video made for his Facebook fans. This is why we love this big, bald weirdo to death.

Of course, 'Riddick 4' is still far from confirmed and Universal wanting to develop something is about as far from an actual green light as you can get, but it's a start. We would welcome another grisly Riddick adventure, not only because we dig this series but because a happy Vin Diesel is a dancing Vin Diesel and we can always use more of that. Speaking of "more of that," here's video of a teenage Vin Diesel breakdancing in the 80s.
