M.I.A. Addresses ‘Ridiculous’ NFL Lawsuit for 2012 Super Bowl Incident

The NFL is suing rapper M.I.A. for flipping the bird during a 2012 Super Bowl performance alongside Madonna and Nicki Minaj. Now, the rapper has responded, calling the allegations "completely ridiculous."

The football league says M.I.A. breached her performance contract and hit the London native with a $1.5 million lawsuit, according to the NY Daily News.

On Monday (Sept. 23), the singer posted a video to her YouTube page, in which she appears on the phone being interviewed about the suit. She said there were more offensive things happening during the set other than her middle finger, such as the cheerleaders who were "under 16" and posing in a "very sexually provocative position."

"Is my finger offensive? Or is an under age black girl with her legs wide open more offensive to the family audience," said the 'Bring the Noize' creator. "...And that's basically what it comes down to. It's a massive waste of time."

M.I.A. said Madonna got the cheerleaders from a local high school in Indianapolis, Ind. She continues by saying the lawsuit is "a massive display of a powerful corporation d---k-shaking. They want me on my knees and to say sorry so they could slap me on my wrist and basically say it's OK for me to promote being sexually exploited as a female than to display female empowerment through being punk rock."

Let's hope she has a great lawyer because $1.5 million is not easy to give up.
