Local Hikers Call for Taxi While Stuck on Whiteface Mountain
If you went hiking and got stuck on a mountain, who would be your first call? Would it be a taxi because that's what this local couple thought to do.
I read a story on the Daily Gazette where a couple decided to go hiking up Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks. They ended up misjudging the time it would take to make the climb so they called a taxi to drive up to pick them up. I don't know if this idea is genius or terrible. Can you imagine being that taxi driver getting a call to pick someone up on the top of the mountain?
Luckily, both people are okay. The road up to where they were happened to be was closed so the Park Ranger picked them up and drove them to their vehicle. The couple figured that the taxi could take the Whiteface Veterans' Memorial Highway but it is currently closed due to it being the off-season and was closed Sunday.
Whiteface Mountain is the fifth-highest mountain in New York State and they figured their climb would only take about 45 minutes. As mentioned, luckily everyone is safe and luckily, the Park Rangers are always there to help!
