The dangers of drinking and driving we’re on full display in Saratoga, New York. One person's selfishness caused a motor vehicle crash when he decided to drink and then get behind the wheel of a car.

According to News 10, Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office 44-year old William Biette, of Latham, was arrested after he was driving while intoxicated. Mr. Biette was driving on route 67, early in the morning on Wednesday, when he drifted across the dividing lines and caused a multiple vehicle accident. Mr. Biette crossed the centerline and struck a vehicle head-on that was going in the opposite direction. He then hit a second vehicle that was going in the opposite direction.

The impact of the collision was so severe that one of the drivers was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle by responding emergency personnel. The driver was transported by ambulance to Saratoga Hospital for treatment. The driver sustained chest injury, but their condition is not known at this time.

William Biette was charged with reckless driving, second-degree criminal contempt, circumvention of an ignition interlock device, third-degree assault, and various other vehicle and traffic law violations. Mr. Biette also faces more serious felony charges of first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and driving while intoxicated. He was arrested and remanded to Saratoga County Jail where he is waiting for bail or bond. Further proceedings have not been scheduled yet.

Needless to say, Mr. Biette acted in a very irresponsible way, by drinking and driving. Where was he going anyways? Fortunately, no one was killed by his reckless behavior, hopefully, he has learned a lesson and won’t be so reckless in the future. It's 2020 with ridesharing and multiple means of transportation there is no excuse to drink and drive.
