L.A. Reid Reportedly Leaves Epic Records
Noted music industry exec Antonio “L.A.” Reid has reportedly stepped down from his role as chairman of Epic Records, according to a story by Variety. No one has given a solid answer as to why the split.
Reid joined the Sony Music label in July 2011 and was responsible for the careers of Future and Travis Scott, female singing group Fifth Harmony, and mega-producer DJ Khaled. As stated by hiphopdx.com, he also was responsible for Mariah Carey's reunion with Sony Music.
He was formerly chief executive officer for Def Jam Island Records.
Reid’s long career in the music business began as a drummer with ’80s R&B band, The Deele. After the stint, he relocated from his hometown of Cincinnati to Atlanta and established LaFace Records with fellow band member Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds under the Arista umbrella.
