Testos Restaurant Is Now Officially Part Of New York History

A longtime Troy favorite is getting some well-deserved recognition.

Testo’s Restaurant, located at 853 Fourth Avenue in Lansingburgh, has officially been added to the New York State Historic Business Preservation Registry as it celebrates 50 years of serving the Capital Region.

The honor recognizes businesses that have been operating for at least 50 years and have made a lasting impact on their communities.

The family-owned restaurant, founded in 1976 by Charles and Philomena Testo along with their four children, has become a local institution known for authentic Italian food and a strong commitment to giving back.

Testo's Is More Than a Restaurant

Through the years, Testo’s has supported countless local organizations while creating a place where generations of families have gathered for meals and celebrations.

According to News 10 ABC, Owner John Testo says the family has always focused on treating customers and employees like family. He credits the support of the community for the restaurant’s success and says giving back has always felt like a natural responsibility.

How Did Testo's Get Nominated?

The recognition came through a nomination from Assemblymember John McDonald. Since the registry was created in 2022 by New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, it has highlighted businesses that help preserve the character and history of communities across the state. Testo’s marks the 300th business added to the registry.

McDonald praised the Testo family for building a legacy centered on family, hospitality, and hard work. He noted that their contributions extend well beyond the dining room and into the community they have supported for decades.

After 50 years in business, Testo’s continues to be much more than a restaurant. It remains a gathering place and a proud part of Lansingburgh’s history.
