These Yankees’ Stars Suited Up for Albany, New York’s Beloved Baseball Team
It's baseball season in the Capital Region, and with every new Opening Day, sports fans in our area get the chance to reminisce about the many great memories that have been made throughout Albany baseball history. Few team names evoke better memories than the Albany-Colonie Yankees, who dominated the local sports scene during the late 1980s and early 1990s.
It was with the A-C Yankees that a number of now-famous New York Yankees' stars began their careers. Do you remember watching these players take the field in Colonie?
Remembering the Up-and-Coming Superstars Who Played for the A-C Yankees
For those that do not know, or remember, the Albany-Colonie Yankees were a minor-league affiliate of the New York Yankees, and played ball in the Double-A Eastern League from 1985 to 1994. They played their games at Heritage Park in Colonie, and were a massive hit when they first entered the Capital Region sports scene.
The team averaged 4,662 fans in attendance during their first year, and averaged over 4,000 spectators per game during each of their first three seasons in the area.
During the team's illustrious decade in Albany, fans in the area were able to witness countless talented players take the field each game. A few of those players would end up moving to Triple-A, then get the call to the big leagues, where they would develop into household names with the New York Yankees.
