Schwartz on ‘The Drive': ‘Silly’ for New York Fans to Hate Saquon Barkley Now

Saquon Barkley is no longer a member of the New York Giants, and fans are upset about it.

That said, the term upset can take a few different meanings in this scenario.

A section of the fanbase is sad about Barkley's departure, and that's where I currently stand. Barkley was the 2nd overall pick in 2018, and when healthy, was one of the most explosive offensive players in the league.

His career has been marred by injury, and up until last year, he never played on a team that made the playoffs. The timing was never quite right for Barkley and the Giants, and his tenure certainly comes to an end in a disappointing fashion.

Then, you had the section of the fanbase that is mad at Saquon Barkley. Just ask former New York Giant Tiki Barber how he feels, for instance:

It may seem extreme, but there are plenty of fans who agree with him. Signing with a division rival is bold decision to make, and now, the Giants will have to play against Saquon Barkley twice per year for the foreseeable future.

No matter where you side in this argument, every Giants' fan has to acknowledge the incredible job that Joe Schoen has done since the Barkley news broke. New York has already signed three new offensive linemen, and has acquired one of the top young pass rushers in the NFL.

On both sides of the ball, they've built the "middle" of the field up to a level that fans of the team haven't seen in years. They chose not to spend money on Barkley, and instead, have allocated those funds in more responsible ways.
