It's another thing to lose a baseball game after having multiple leads in the later innings.

What happened to the New York Yankees yesterday, however, was a step above both of those scenarios. After blowing leads of 3-1 and 7-5 during the game, the New York Yankees' television play-by-play broadcaster made a comment about Colorado infielder Alan Trejo, and specifically, how he hadn't hit a home run yet this season.

Trejo stepped to the plate, and almost immediately made this Yankees' announcer eat his words.

Yankees' Disastrous Sunday Loss Punctuated by 'Broadcaster's Jinx'

Sunday's game between the New York Yankees and Colorado Rockies was certainly an entertaining one. In the top half of the 11th inning, the Yankees plated two runs, and the team entered the bottom half of the inning three outs away from a game, and series, victory.

Rockies' youngster Nolan Jones had other ideas, and with one swing of the bat, the game was once again tied. Later in the inning, infielder Alan Trejo stepped to the plate.

This is what John Flaherty, who was filling in for Michael Kay at the microphone, had this to say about Trejo:

Just like that, Flaherty had fallen victim to the broadcaster's jinx, and the Yankees had fallen victim to the Colorado Rockies in the rubber game of their three-game series. As one would expect, Yankees' fans were quick to call the moment out on Twitter.

As a play-by-play broadcaster myself, I can tell you this: I am always cognizant of the broadcaster's jinx. All announcers have a job to do, and it would be a disservice to the listeners or viewers to let the idea of "jinxing" the game get in the way of one's broadcast.

That said, if it does happen, a professional sports broadcaster will likely go viral for the wrong reason, and that's exactly what happened to John Flaherty on Sunday.
