How Impressive Was This NAL Championship For The Albany Empire?
The Albany Empire did it again. They defeated the Carolina Cobras on Saturday to win their second straight National Arena League Championship. Quarterback Sam Castronova played well and was effective both throwing the ball and using his legs as well. However, the defense was the story. They picked off Carolinas three times and only held them to 20 points for the whole game which is remarkable in Arena football. Their pressure was relentless and couldn't have come at a better time in the biggest game of the year. The Empire had been 0-3 vs Carolina in the regular season, but they won the most important game when it mattered. Here is my quick take on this from The Times Union:
There is something about Arena Football in Albany and the success of winning championships. Saturday, the Albany Empire won back to back National Arena League titles with a lopsided win over Carolina and the attendance and atmosphere was much closer to what we are accustomed too. Give Owner Mike Kwarta a ton of credit for sticking with it, despite losing money the last two seasons. There were close to 5,000 fans at the MVP Arena and you can see how passionate the fans are for Arena Football. Some things never change.
We always had on Albany Empire head coach Tom Menas with us every Monday at 12 noon right here on Big Board Sports all season long. Below is our final interview with him this season wrapping up another championship win.
It is on to next season for the Albany Empire where they will look to win three straight NAL titles.
