Of course, French Montana isn't the only rhymer who's trying to put the Bronx on his back. Cory Gunz, born Peter Cory Pankey Jr., turns 28 years old today (June 21).

The year was 2010 and people were getting ready for the comeback of the century. Lil Wayne just got released from prison, which immediately started the hype train for Tha Carter IV. Although the album turned out to be a disappointment, "6 Foot 7 Foot" hinted that it would be more of a greatest collection just like Tha Carter III was. The song had fans asking the question -- who is Cory Gunz?

Guns, whose father is Peter Gunz of "Deja Vu (Uptown Baby)" fame, closed out the track with a surprising performance of rapid-fire lyrics. Appearing on a single that peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100 Songs chart isn't a bad way to start a rap career.

What was supposed to be the start of great things ended up becoming Gunz's only career highlight. Although the Cash Money artist has released several mixtapes, his career has stalled, mostly due to his gun case, which ended with him being on probation.

That said, you can make the argument that it's bad luck instead of lack of talent that's holding Gunz back. Nevertheless, he's still making music. To promote his upcoming Gunzilla mixtape, Gunz recently dropped a new video for the James Brown-sampled tune "Make It Funky."
