Flatline Shot and Killed in Texas, Family & Friends Hold Vigils [VIDEO]

Texas rapper Flatline was shot and killed on Friday (Feb. 20) in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was 37 years old.

According to KZTV 10 News, Flatline, whose real name is Jose Jesus Mendoza, was shot at a bait and tackle shop at around 2AM. Police say witnesses heard multiple gunshots and when they rushed to the location, they found Flatline shot multiple times.

Paramedics arrived at the location and applied CPR but couldn’t revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Corpus Christi Police Department have a 29-year-old suspect in custody but he remains unidentified. The man turned himself in to police shortly after the shooting with a head injury.

Flatline was a popular local rapper and an avid fisherman. He loved fishing so much that he created a fishing group called Team Die Hard Fishing.

On the music side, Flatline has released numerous songs on the independent rap scene and appeared on tracks with rappers such as Trae tha Truth and Kevin Gates. In 2013, he dropped a video for the song “Where Did I Go Wrong,” which garnered over 473,000 views on YouTube.

Friends and family held two candlelight vigils to memorialize the fallen rapper over the weekend. "My brother did a lot for the community," said Flatline's brother, Hector Mendoza, to Action 10 News. "Through his music he touched a lot of people's hearts."

Flatline was also a devoted father of two children. His 10-year-old son, Trey, was diagnosed with autism. Before his death, the rapper was planning a charity event benefitting local autistic children. The rhymer also shot a video dedicated to children who are suffering from autism.
