Elderly Couple Found Shot In Albany
Memorial Day began tragically for an elderly couple in New Scotland. An elderly couple were both found shot early in the morning of Monday, May 25.
According to the Times Union, shortly after midnight on Monday, Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple responded to a call for a shooting at a home at 51 Orchard Hill Road in New Scotland. Sheriff Apple’s initial investigation revealed that an elderly 75-year-old woman was suffering from some type of medical condition. She and her 87-year-old husband recently returned to New York from their Florida home because of her medical condition. The couple’s daughter was living with them to help care for the mother.
It appears that the elderly man shot his wife and then attempted to kill himself. Authorities believe that the couple planned to kill themselves because of the wife’s medical condition, they wanted to die together. When Sheriff Apple arrived at the location the woman was deceased, but the man was still alive. The man was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital where he was pronounced dead on Monday morning. The names of the deceased have not yet been released
It’s always sad when someone dies. It’s especially sad when someone is so sick that they don’t want to live anymore. When a couple loves each other so much that they don’t feel that they can live without one another, it’s hard to even imagine what they were going through. Memorial Day will probably take on a new meaning for the couple’s surviving family members. We send our thoughts and prayers to the survivors of this couple.
