There are so many games, and events, happening in the Capital Region this weekend, I can barely keep them all straight. And, it might snow on top of all of them!

Sports in the Capital Region This Weekend

First and foremost, we have to begin with an event I've been looking forward to for months: The Mayor's Cup. The 8th annual battle of the RPI and Union hockey teams is this Saturday, January 29th. Doors open one hour prior to game time, with RPI and Union's women's programs facing off at 11AM at the MVP Arena.

Following the conclusion of the women's game, the RPI and Union men's teams will face off in the pursuit of the Mayor's Cup at 2PM. Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for kids and students, and you can get them here.

After the hockey concludes for the day, the Albany FireWolves have dibs on the MVP Arena at night. The turf floor will be rolled out over the concrete, and the FireWolves will face off against the Halifax Thunderbirds at 8PM on Saturday night. Book-ending the Saturday night slate at the MVP Arena, are two games featuring the Siena Saints men's basketball program. Coach Carm and Co. take on Niagara Friday night (tonight!), and the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Sunday at 2PM.

The UAlbany Great Danes women's hoops program will play at the SEFCU Arena on Saturday at 2PM, and you can visit the team's Ticket Central page here.

Other Events to Check Out in the Capital Region

Charlie and I were lucky enough to speak to a few representatives from this great event, and we hope you'll stop by, as well. The 7th Annual New York State Brewers Festival is this Saturday, from 4PM - 8PM at the Desmond Hotel in Albany. There will be tons of incredible local breweries on display, and you can get your tickets now at ThinkNYDrinkNY.com.

Aside from that, you can also catch The Wood Brothers at the Palace Theater in Albany tonight at 8PM.

Keep in mind, however, that as WGNA's Snow-stradamus, Matty Jeff, summarized in this article, the snowfall in the Capital Region this weekend may make for some tenuous driving. No matter where you go, stay safe out there.
